Dr. Ihde and EsophyX on NBC

Acid reflux affects nearly 60 million Americans but a new incision less procedure being done right here in northern Texas is offering patients instant relief. Here is Kim Fisher with a health alert.

Kim: Jerry  Boyle began having chronic indigestion.

Jerry: Mostly after I ate so I knew something was wrong.

Kim: So he started taking pills to keep the symptoms away but that didn’t solve the problem.

Jerry: I couldn’t have my Mexican food; I couldn’t eat what I wanted to eat.

Kim: And he couldn’t sleep so Boyle decided to try a new procedure promising complete relief from the condition called EsophyX, Jerry McCarty did it just two months ago.

Jerry: It’s been great; I’ve been back living a normal life you know.

Kim: McCarty suffered with acid reflux nearly 10 years before surgery, and he said the procedure changed his life and with little to no pain at all.

Jerry: I recommend it. If I went through it, I’m sure you can.

Kim: Dr. Glen Ihde is only one of the few doctors here in Dallas that knows how to do the procedure. Idhe says the procedure is incision less and goes in the mouth through the esophagus.

Dr Idhe: The procedure works by improving the valve at the end of the esophagus we push down and create sort of a flap that will close as the stomach distends.

Kim: The man made flap keeps the acid from coming out of the stomach. Boyle just has one hope after this day is done.

Jerry: When you interview me the next time, I’ll be able to say how great it was.

Kim: In Dallas Kim Fisher NBC 5.
